The Jacka and Young Sight – Rich Girl

Best thing about the Bay Area compilations re-using tracks that are already out is that you snap up some shit you missed the first time around.
I think this was from late last year but I just caught it on Melo and Messy Marv’ new compilation “Atlantic City”

Beat slaps so hard and the Hall & Oates sample is mean.

Jacka has an album with freeway out later this year(?) and a solo joint(?) called “We Mafia”, according to various tweets etc. This track is stupid nice

Dru Down Appreciation

I have no idea why Dru Down didn’t break through to the mainstream. Guy had catchy songs. Beats were nice, he can rap and still pull off some quirky shit that’s gotta be marketable as fuck . Hardbody enough content to keep the wannabe thugs happy yet catchy enough tunes to make posteriors rotate.

I’d love to see the guy with his own video interview slot somewhere, or hosting awards/interviewing people on the red carpet and making shit hella awkward. ‘Cause that last video+song is not only bizarre but I think he’s taking the whole thing seriously, not a self deprecating moment in there.

Jacka + Cellski – Mob Shit

Two of the Bay’s favourite sons come good on this one. People calling jack “the bay area Nas” are giving Nas a compliment. Cellski always come through with raps that are concise, no superfluous lyrics just to get extra rhymes in, every word is chosen/used perfectly

Video is super crisp looking.

Posse Cuts.

There’s something about tracks with a half dozen or so different rappers that I really like. Possibly because I grew up when rap groups were more common than solo artists. Having different people come in every verse (or half verse) stops shit getting boring and there can be some real entertainment later in the track when there are a couple of dubious artists and the quality falls to amateur hour levels.

Last few years it’s been the go to for a new artist with a hit single to get a remix with about 10 a-list rappers – think throw some D’s on it, black n yellow, aye bay bay. Which invariably ended up with Jim jones droning over the beat at some point because cam’ron seemed to go missing for a minute or two a couple years back. anyways, here’s some posse cuts worth checking out.

(sorry missed “hood like me”) Leanin on the Lac can be found along with some other slow motion sounds joints on the link  above.  To make up there’s an 11min remix of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black n Yellow” with Game, Jeezy and some others on there, it’s nice.
