NEW BANGS – Hi Hater

Leave a comment

The whiny reggaton inspired beat is catchy as fuck. The broken English and thick Sudanese(?) accent add to the charm. And has Bangs improved at rapping over the last year or two or what?

I like this kid because;

  1. He’s completely earnest and it comes across
  2. Most rappers, locally, of his “calibre” are trying to gain traction using beats that would’ve been laughed at back in the “golden era” under the guise of making “real hip hop”. He gets points for creativity with something as simple as this.

enjoy this and try not to hum it on the train to work tomorrow

In Bullet Points

  • Seems most guys in Melb can’t afford a tee-shirt. Lil steroid homie looked all confused when i threw some coins on the ground and told him to pick them up and get himself to the salvation army shop on monday. Sorry dawg, just being a bully when drunk, hope you understand.
  • Erykah Badu will always be able to sell CDs to funky white people/lesbians. Fuck knows how i ended up seeing any of that. Place fucking stunk.
  • Rusko(rosko???) Lightweight dub-step, but I aint mad at that, why put him on in the middle of the day?
  • Nas + Damien Marley.. Was the guy meant to play “No Woman No Cry” after Nas did golden oldies to start off with? interested for ten minutes. Went and got beers twice + pissed x3 and they were still playing. srsly boredom. 20 mins would’ve been enough.
  • Luda kept it short and on point, even some turntable shit for the golden oldies. Does he know the sound was fucking shocking though? like you couldn’t hear a fuckin word he was saying at times.
  • That’s all I saw, aside from a fuckload of people being embarrassing trying to show off/be quirky.

360 + Pez Just Got Started

I like what ’60 tries to do. The beat is on some summer niceness that fits Melbourne’s current clime and makes for perfect background music. My gripes are;

1. If you’re going to have a sung hook, get someone who can sing. Might cost a dollar or two more but really, it matters.

2. What’s the point of having a guest/second artist if they add nothing. Srsly, pez could’ve handed the verse back to 360 instead of doing it himself and it wouldn’t have changed anything (I know, you guys had a good follwing off that one track together and could do with cashing in on that again.)

3. Could you not accentuate the last word on every line – or at least the rhyming ones. I get it, it’s rap, it’s supposed to rhyme, there’s no need to emphasize the words that do.

It’ll still do well, get radio play and upset the “rap purists” (which makes everything else forgiveable in my eyes), so well done ’60. And at least you’re bucking the local status quo, doing your own thing, just lay off posting youtube vids when you’ve had a big night on dust, that shit made me shiver.

edit- seems some people are catching feelings ove the heavy sample/appropriating the chorus from a whitest boy alive track.

maino, raps music has been sampling since it’s inception. just cause it’s not a 60’s soul hook doesn’t make it any less valid.
